Day 3- Beneath the Walls

August 15, 2019

Baturaden

What’s beneath the walls around this town? Where would I be teaching? Who are the people there? Are they welcoming one? Indeed, selemat pagi , ako cristine olaso, ready for a bigger scope of Purwokerto, yesterday we just visit the Universitas Muhamadiyah Purwokerto or UMP main campus. But today we are fetched by the university’s car because we will be visiting our purpose here, which is to be in our respective schools. Fortunately, we were able to visit another school before we came to our school, we went to Baturaden that was located in a hell part of the 4th biggest mountain in the country, the weather there is cool it has good scenery. We were able to meet the very accommodating staffs there. Aside from that my travel buddy from the Philippines, we able to meet Pa Sae for the first time the one who interviewed us via video call. Terima kasih banyak Pa Sae Senang bertemu denganmu.

As always part of every meet up I guess, we were served by a snack, they have sweet sticky rice and the salty sticky rice with the chicken filling. After having some taste, I was able to tour around their very nice campus I could say. The environment is very well for the students, it was indeed a conducive place for learning. I admire the fishes in their ponds. I appreciate a lot that they have plenty of functioning sink everywhere. For me it is good to have around it, so the students will be exposed to proper sanitation. We take pictures of some of the students there. Baturaden campus deserved applause.

SMP Muhamadiyah Purwokerto 1, meet and greet

This time is our turn after sending them we, went down to town to finally visit the school that I will be teaching, its name is SMP Muhamadiyah 1 Purwokerto, it’s just in proximity to the second biggest mall in town, it’s name is Moro Mall. As we arrive at the school, it seems that most of the students are all busy and we're just having fun. Because they are in the midst of their celebration of their 74th national Independence Day in which part of it they have games. As well us we able to visit and take a picture to their music room.

Gereh lodeh

Time to feed our tummy again, we are told that we will be having our lunch together with the faculty and staff of SMP, to one of their traditional restaurant in town namely “Gereh Lodeh”. The atmosphere is very traditional indeed, from the interior designs to its surroundings outside. Their way of serving is very new to me, it’s almost similar to eat all you can concept, but anyway what’s matters most to me is the food, hehehe. There were so many foods on my plate because I don’t want to miss anything, I also try the big type of beans which was new to me, their" tufo" filled with vegetables, their kind of omelet, the lettuce, the dried fish and of course never miss their “sembal pedas “ the spicy one. But the food that marks me the most is the “Gareng Asem” it tastes very delicious, looking forward to tasting it again.
